  1. Hey/ I think he meant it in a nice way. Like clearly he had a difficult time giving himself fully/ emotionally opening up to other girls. His natural defense mechanism when things got too close was to push them away. You didn’t let him do that. You stuck by his side .. and that’s nude to do. This is coming from someone who pushes away everyone who gets too close… when subconsciously I’m hoping someone would stay.

  2. How can she be a gold digger if you’re the one that so easily gave her access to your money? You set the precedence that this is okay, and she got comfortable very quickly. Time to set some boundaries, and be ready for when she leaves you for it.

  3. What you go for in your own relationship is up to you.

Me personally, I was fine with being proposed to or proposing to my partner (but he wanted to do the proposing so I didn’t). Idk if because of that I was totally up for getting him a ring but I don’t see why you couldn’t have your own engagement ring too. I’m getting my fiancé a nice watch because he doesn’t want a ring (and besides saving for a wedding, we’ve already got a house so there’s nothing we could put that money to instead).

I’m not sure exactly how much mine cost but it was definitely below £5k. It’s a platinum ring and a high quality diamond (my fiancé knows a lot more about it as he picked it and the setting to make his own ring which means way more to me than the price tag). Point being, yes, you can get a good quality ring for way less than £10k.

The issue here is you need to decide now (or soon) whether you’re alright being in a relationship where your partner expects things on a “traditional” basis. If you want to put the money towards your future/a house and she wants an expensive ring instead, that’s a financial difference you need to settle before thinking about marriage. If your attitudes to money are different, there’ll be more resentment in the future too.

As a side note, my friend recently proposed to her fiancé with a nice watch and he got her a ring after. There’s no right way to get engaged.
