I think you are sensitive to his boldness, nothing he said was wrong. If you continue thinking negatively and trying to get pity for it, people do get fed up with it at one point and sometimes answer is boldness.
So while he tries to cater to your sensitivity, you can slowly accept that saying things as they are and not sugarcoating anything is also very beneficial and it is not a sign of being mad.

Your right to not want to spend 10k on a ring, but if your mind is you should get a Rolex in return you’re not mature enough to be engaged. You don’t get a mutual engagement. Engagement and marriage is about a life long commitment and not what material item can you get. The ring is supposed to be a symbol and more than likely she’ll have it for decades, investing in it is a good idea so you don’t have to buy another one. You should do your research on a ring and purchase a good quality ring, it’s not something you should cheap out on, but 10k is to much.
