Yes I’m really hoping our counseling sessions can help him deal with his overwhelming guilt and all the other trauma Thea dealing with. Of course, priorities don’t exactly mean someone in need will be abandoned. I’ve taken time away from him to help family/friends who needed me, and he is a doctor so he knows how to juggle multiple “crisis” situations, if it comes down to it. The benefit to having staff, I’ve come to appreciate, is that it makes things a lot more manageable, if his immediate priorities do have to switched, or if he needs time away from them.
Dude, forgive yourself. You did absolutely nothing wrong. Did you choose to be born in a war torn region? No. Did you choose to witness the effects of war at a young age? No. But living through a war would affect anyone. You're carrying a lot of (probably) undiagnosed trauma. It manifests itself in odd ways.
I'm sure your adoptive parents are aware of your background. And while your words may have hurt them you know in your heart it wasn't directed at them. Sit down with them and explain, as best you can, that it's not them but your past experience that are haunting you. If you've not done it before maybe ask about getting into therapy to help you deal with your past. Good luck. You sound like a good egg.
Man, I feel for your situation. Nothing about it seems right or beneficial…to anyone. It feels like you've got to rip the bandaid off and have a conversation with her, as grown adults and figure out a way forward. Whether that's divorce or reconciliation, an amicable way forward helps everyone in this situation. I wish you well.
