I know how it feels when you know your narc is calling you. You rightly say you feels weak in your knees. Empathy is considered nice virtue but it can create havoc in the life of empath when empathy is shown to Narc. They would squeeze last drop of money or favors out of you till you loose your empathy quality.
I am 12 months since no contact but still she will not leave me alone ..and create all kinds of scenarios to wake up any empathy left in you. I get so stressed that my entire body stiffens including my prostate and I would not be able to urinate for hours even after taking hour long showers to calm down.
Believe me this will change you for ever. I don't feel empathy for any one any mote, I feel I am getting rude and indifferent to people requiring empathy genuinely

You did expect that from her, though. Your reaction is proof. You need to leave her alone. She told you she wasn’t interested in you as more than a friend and you refused to accept that. You were never, ever a genuine friend.
