I think you should tell him that if he can’t say something nice, to keep his mouth shut. You don’t need the negativity.
As for going to your races, I dunno. I’ve been to a few marathons and such as support and it is pretty boring if you’re not with friends and are just there alone for 4+ hours. I have a hobby where there are competitions and I wouldn’t expect my partner to go. It’s just not his thing (horses) and it’s an all day deal usually.
I’d be curious to learn what his real issue is with your competitive running. It’s almost like he’s jealous of the time or money or attention you spend on the sport but instead of saying that, he just puts you down. Not cool.
