I’ve been cheated on with a long term partner. It’s so unfair because they have time to prepare emotionally for the fall out, whereas you are just sprung with this info and expected to be able to make a decision immediately. I think it’s important to focus on the fact that the decision has already been made to tank the marriage, it was made by him when he decided to cheat on you. Whether or not you chose to stay will not reverse that decision. I stayed the first time I learned my partner cheated and it just gave him the courage to do it again later on, in a much more disrespectful and bold manner. Looking back, the chapter of my life where I was happy and content dating him ended the first time I found out he was cheating. By staying with him, all I did was prolong starting my next chapter.
