Not making an effort to learn the language your child’s partner speaks is bizarre. Speaking as an older parent – I cannot imagine not making the effort to learn the basics if my kids married people I couldn’t communicate with. If someone is important enough to be that big a part of my child’s life, I want to get to know them and talk to them. Hell, if that person is going to be the one making medical or legal decisions for my child in the event of emergency or tragedy, I need to be able to communicate with them. This is not a one way street.
It’s bizarre that neither party has made the effort and OP is stuck in the middle with none of their loved ones loving them enough to make an effort, but it’s not more on one of them than the other.
You know what was wild to me? I was 30 and single and actually chilled out about my relationship status and dudes in general and people around me were freaked out! Like oh no what do we do with this dusty crone walking around among us lol? It was like it actively upset people that I was having fun. Sorry you're unhappy with your husband, baby, and mortgage. I’ve said that before on this sub to brides. The people who actually care about you will make you the center of attention and try to make it a special day. The people who don’t, are going to do what they do. Ignore them, stay positive, and focus on all of the love around you. You can photoshop them out of the pictures later.
