Personally, I would rather someone ask for jewelry (and a car would be an unreasonably expensive request) than a “heartfelt letter that they will keep for a long time.” They are also celebrating Christmas with their family, so maybe she is planning on reading it in front of them?
I hate writing, I'm terrible at it, and it gives me a lot of anxiety. I would be even more anxious if I had the pressure that someone expected an amazing letter that they would read in front of my whole family and keep forever.
