While you’re single, young and prepared to take on the world, follow your heart. I don’t know your circumstances, and I don’t know your relationships so I am unable to really speak for you, but if I were in your situation I would personally take the move early (and save a room for your friend)
It sounds to me like your family is emotionally draining, and that really isn’t a way to live. It might even be ideal to move early to get everything setup for when your friend does end up graduating and moving in! By then, at least you’ll know the ropes of the new city and house etc 🙂
Idk, I’m tired and thought I’d just throw my opinion out there. You’re doing better than most people financially, I’m living paycheck to paycheck and barely making it. You’ve got this!
OP, what was your first reaction when you saw the card from your parents, how did you feel?
Did you feel panic, fear, dread or did you feel anger?
Your first gut feel when you realised who the card was from should be what lets you know which option to take, if it was panic, fear or dread – stay away, they still have the ability to affect your peace of mind if it was anger, it might be time to confront them & vent if it was indifference, again another reason to stay away
Dont cash the check, we all know that comes with strings, just return to sender it you dont have to add anything to the envelope if you don't want to – the returned check will speak volumes
Most importantly dont let the thought of them damage your self esteem, look at your life now, how happy & free you are
