I would never compromise my happiness for anyone. That being said – it’s incredibly sad how many people dictate their partner choices based on exactly this. Your parents appear more harmful to you then your partner. Please put yourself first and enjoy what sounds like a beautiful future with him.

Listen mate, I was in the same situation you were in back in my 20s.
My Ex wanted me to start making more money because she was used to a certain lifestyle and didn't want to settle. I ended up making more money than her parents were in m mid 20s. She still ended up leaving.
What I'm saying is, once she has it in her mind that you're less than her, you're not gonna recover. Even if you actually do end up matching her economically, you're always gonna be “settling”. You goose was cooked when she started seeing you as an inferior.
It's concerning that she lied about it. Yeah “my past is my past” but when you're currently lying about the past, it's not in the past anymore. Plus it's important cuz it's your best friend. Not everyone is comfortable with dating someone their friends or family has been intimate with. For some people that's a weird feeling and thats ok. I would ask the friend for the truth cuz she has already lied and might lie again. Also ask the friend why he didn't tell you. They BOTH should have told you.
