Ideally you would get rid of as much of the stuff in your storage unit as possible as that's a huge unnecessary expense and it's not that hard to buy new stuff anyways. It's quite common for people to pay several times the value of their stuff in order to store it for far longer than they originally meant to.
If that's not possible then consider getting a smaller storage unit and putting your stuff in there as that's likely to be far easier than trying to get money from him.
How is a spotless house an actual need? That is a desire or a hope. How does he suffer when there is a toy on the carpet? A dish in the sink? What happens when there are crumbs on the counter? How is he damaged or hurt? Ask him those questions. What does he see that is not spotless? So what is the consequence for him when this happens?
