He has some past trauma in his life (like one of your parents dying right in front of you type of trauma) and he has never sought out any help from a professional
You should advise that he sees someone for his past trauma. If it was that bad, it could resurface. What this also tells me is that he's a mean drunk and that's something you should avoid being around.

at the end of the day you can't force anybody into anything, and challenging her stance on this would be seen as trying to force something. I guess meet up if you want to and maybe it could be fun anyway, but for the time being you just have to take her at her word that she doesn't want a relationship. I would not press the issue. If later on she decides to change her opinion on it naturally then cool but don't go setting any expectations for it. if no relationship happens then either move on or be friends, whatever you are interested in doing out of those two options.

For dumb hypotheticals that involve your relationship, the answer is always “yes, my love”: Yes, of course I’d do anything to protect you. Yes, of course I’d still love you if you turned into a slug. Yes, if the planet was exploding and only I got an invitation to escape on the last spaceship, of course I’d stay behind with you. Because what your wife is asking isn’t “what would you really do?”, it’s “how much do you love me?”

Stealing $50 is massively different than cheating on someone, covering it up, marrying them, and having children with them. For starters, your parents probably wouldn't have broken up with you and never spoken to you again over $50, but most people would end a relationship over their partner sleeping with someone else. Not telling the truth about something because it's effectively irrelevant now is completely different than doing it because you don't want to accept consequences for your actions.
