I’m no psychologist, but just adding a bit of personal experience that may contribute: there’s been a handful of times where I was almost asleep, or had just woken up, and I heard someone speak to me. Usually it’s a voice I recognize, like my mother or friend. And it shocks me, I jolt awake and look around and realize that I am, in fact, completely alone and nobody is around to have spoken to me. So based on my personal experience, I would say it’s completely possible but not definite that your brain hallucinated him speaking to you. I’m in a somewhat similar boat. My wife has a good paying job but I make 3-4 times what she does. Wife is angry that my job requires long hours and doesn’t give me credit for working.
My advice is let her be a stay at home mom. Working a full time job and being a mother is hot. It’s really not worth it when you make so much more than her. After taxes she probably doesn’t make that much money anyway.
