I do think you overreacted. Is your problem that you do not want him having any female friends or was it because 17 years, back when he was in his early 20s he had a puppy crush on this one? Has he done anything out of line with this friend, or shown any reason for concerns and your drastic reaction? Because if not, you sound like you are a bit irrationally jealous. It’s fine and dandy to discuss healthy boundaries for each of you to have in maintaining your friendships, and what lines should not be crossed, but demanding he cut contact then coming her to gloat about it? Don’t be so sure that he acquiesced to your request; more likely he’s laying his friendship low and speaking to her on the sly. No man wants to feel so neutered they tell their good friend “Hey, my girlfriend said I no longer have permission to be your friend so our friendship it over.” Especially if they are good friends.
The whole regret-based sexual harassment trend is an insult to actual sexual assault survivors.
