If she personally helps this woman leave, and he finds out, there’s no telling what lengths he will go to. Men like this don’t give up easily, sometimes never. He could find her, threaten her, stalk her, and bring violence to her doorstep.
If you’ve never been in an abusive relationship you just can’t fathom the never ending terror. Even many years later, you can be pulled back into that place of fear and despair with something as simple as a familiar smell. The possibility of having even a tangential contact can be dangerous on many levels. OP is right to feel conflicted.
