Honestly it sounds like you both need therapy, individual and couples if you want any chance of salvaging this relationship. As does your actions in trying to compete with a dead woman. Your boyfriend does not sound like he is handling the situation well, either, which is why I said he needs therapy, too. But that does not excuse your actions.
You need to come clean to him, apologize, and ask him to get into therapy with you. Or end the relationship.
She also helped me here and there and is nice to be around, but she doesn't spent money (like a few grands) on me as close to what I have spent. That makes me doubt my own judgement because isn't it normatice for guys to spend more? But how much more I'm not sure.
