look I had an alcoholic best friend who was a bitchy drunk too and I would never have given him up for a SO, and the bitchiness was just one of those things. They've been friends a long time and he's not going to let him go over this. You have to accept that and if it's a deal breaker for you so be it.
I am amazed at the people here saying $300-500 a month is nothing, over a year that is a couple of nice holidays or stuff for the kids. It does not matter how much he earns the fact he compensates for her effectively throwing money away is not a partnership or even caring.
