The thing to learn from this relationship is that you should, as a bare minimum, expect yourself and your partner to be emotionally ready for a relationship. This is not even remotely the case here. Next time ask “are you emotionally available to be with me? have you dealt with the trauma of your past relationships? Have you resolved them either through self reflection or therapy? Can you promise you will try your best not to project that trauma into our relationship?”

I mean was there any actual effort for her to quit? Are you okay living with it? I understand it’s her choice, but just thinking it won’t become a pressing issue down the road.

If the feelings were resolved, he wouldn't feel the need to talk about them so often. And what the actual heck is wrong with this guy – bringing up his ex's ass randomly and comparing you to her?
Nah man, there's no good reason to do something like that. He's 34 – he should know better. If he hasn't learned by now, he probably never will.
