There's no such thing as a perfect relationship, no matter how much you love each other or how long you've been together there are going to be disagreements and lulls.
With that said, it sounds like you both have some healing to do. You need to be able to be “everything” for yourself instead of relying on someone else to make you feel loved and worthy.
Fighting cancer and working 3 jobs must be extremely intense and stressful. I can understand why he doesn't feel like he has the capacity to be your emotional rock in addition to fighting his own battles. If he thinks he needs to be alone to prioritize his mental health, you have to respect that and give him the space he needs to process and heal.
If you both decide to stay together, you should look into individual therapy so you can learn how to be everything you need for yourselves and come together in a healthy (non-codependent) way.
Your life is not over, you are not broken. No matter what happens, you can get through it.
