My now-husband pushed me to have a relationship with my little sister who lived in my neighborhood but I hadn’t spoken to for years.
I told him I wouldn’t and that he would regret forcing me to if he actually got to know her. Never stopped him. Because of his urging and some other members of my family, she was invited to our reception nearly 2 years ago.
Since then, my husband has apologized & acknowledged that life was better without her in it & “because they’re family” is not a legitimate reason to have a relationship with anyone.
I wish more people would respect the wishes of people who avoid their family without having to learn a lesson first
We all know that there are really horrible people in this world. We also know that they’re all related to SOMEBODY. Let’s just assume that if somebody doesn’t have contact with their family that there’s a reason for it, and it’s not up to us to decide if that reason is valid.
