As someone who has had experience with LDRs in the past, I'm curious as to why you are still in a LDR after 4 years, and not living together?
If they are willing to degrade you don't not fighting their beauty standard, you're better off without them. There's folks out there who will love you as you are AND as you grow into the full you without degrading you.
It sounds like there are a few issues at play here.
The first is the financial imbalance in your relationship. Having open and honest communication with your partner includes your financial situation, your debt and your monthly budget. I know you feel embarrassed or uncomfortable talking about this, but it's important for your partner to understand where you're coming from.
Second, if you're struggling to afford trips to see him, it's okay to ask him to help out with gas or other expenses. It's not fair for you to bear the financial burden alone, especially if he has a significantly higher income than you.
Third, you have to address the power dynamic in your relationship. You feel indebted to him for letting you stay with him during your unemployment, but it's important to remember that you also did things for him in return. It's not a one-way street.
