I'd say, if he's Mexican and and has to have a wedding in Mexico this might be a cultural differences due to the fact that their weddings can be huge and in some places it can be expected to invite the entire family. As for meeting someone so quickly, could work out, could not but it could be more cultural and actually less to do with you personally.
