My bf (M31) of 8 years wants me (F28) to wear a fake engagement ring to prove I’ll wear one BEFORE he decides to propose

I (F28) do not wear a lot of jewellery and what I do wear you can’t take off (piercings, sleepers, etc). The jewellery I do have (that I haven’t lost) is cheap and easily replaceable.

My bf (M31) of 8 years has decided to purchase us both “fake” wedding bands to wear. He hasn’t proposed other than saying he would like to marry me eventually.

I do not wear the ring he gave me often. Most of the time I leave it on my bed side table. When he catches me not wearing it, he will make a comment along the lines of “why do you want to be engaged if you can’t even wear THIS ring”. He wants me to prove I’ll wear a ring before he proposes with one.

I’d honestly prefer to get a ring tattoo, give him a ring to wear or get me a cheaper ring. It’s not the ring I want, it’s the genuine proposal that I really want but he’s set on having me “prove” to him I’ll wear it.

I feel like unless I wear this fake ring every day, he won’t propose ever.

Any advice would really help.
