If he's willing to put in effort and go to anger management, that's a win. She needs to make it clear that it's unacceptable to be name calling and raising his voice all the time. If he cares about her, he'll correct the behavior. If not, she leaves.
If he’s a decent dude, chances are he just doesn’t fit in with more douchey guys. Going to Vegas for UFC seems to be an activity that would be that type. I’m the same way. Can’t get along with typical guys that joke about elementary school shit. Or in their 30s talking about how wasted they got or banging chicks.
I wouldn’t take offense to your family not asking him for help. That could be a courtesy thing. My FIL can do anything around the house or mechanical. He offers to help with projects all the time but I rarely ever take him up on it because he works hot and I don’t want to bother him, even though he’s offered.
Have him look for friends in different places. There’s a coffee shop by me that hosts a wide variety of events. I joined a local woodworking group and they have game nights and other hobbies.
