I think you dodged a bullet with that person as they kept you in the unknown just in case something better came along, in which it did. They also don't like confrontation because they say one thing at the time but their actions are different to what they said.

Even if your wife was afab, I’d find this behavior strange. She is using the baby to meet her needs, not the other way around. Breastfeeding is to feed the baby and that’s simply something your wife can’t do. It just doesn’t seem appropriate and there are other ways to bond with the baby than confusing it about what will happen when it’s time for feeding.
