I think we generally oppose big age gaps because it's so easy for the older one to manipulate the younger, but in this specific case it doesn't really sound like that's what happened. (Obviously we only have his side of it, but assuming he's telling the truth…) It's OK to feel weird about it, but I wouldn't necessarily assume it's a red flag.
