Honestly, the OP sounds a lot like my Dad. Results driven, laser focused, and (to be fair) successful in their work. However, my Dad is not an emotionally intelligent individual and genuinely struggles to understand that people might not see the world how he sees it. He's patriarchal and expressed a desire for the family members to follow their dreams, but ultimately either attempted to cast said dreams within the context of his own desires or just flat out ignored them.
It's simple; you can't shore up a relationship with business acumen and money, because a relationship is about so much more than that. It's about connecting with someone else in a meaningful fashion and growing together as a couple, and that simply isn't possible if one half of the relationship is either working or dragging the other half along on some high-stress 'adventure' with promises of jam tomorrow. Even if the jam eventually arrives, that does nothing to change the fact that the relationship itself wasn't nutured.
(I should also say that my Mum and Dad are now divorced, and my Dad is basically out of contact with his kids as we don't really have anything to talk about that isn't his work).
Hey OP honestly now just make it a huge priority to be active in your relationship. See what she wants and support her 100%. It sounds like she supported you during stressful years. Time to step up and be there. What’s the point of getting where you are if you don’t focus on building your relationship. Sadly you spent years not doing that so it’s time to step up.
