I'd somehow tell him how people react to what he says. He wants a breed of dog that is known to be very protective and often trained to be vicious means that when people see him walking his dog, people will cross the street rather than walk up to him and pet the dog. What are you supposed to think about someone who knows how to break bones or cause pain?
I would re-think the part that he is “protective” of you. Is there a possible situation where he could become violent to “protect” you?
