Good question, probably should have clarified in the post.
I have about 30,000 in savings from scholarship refunds, as well as a retirement account with about 10k right now. I'm very protective of that money either going to a down payment on a house or an emergency fund and absolutely nothing else. I do not know my girlfriends assets, but currently she makes quite a bit more than me monthly. I assume she has savings, but I am not sure on the retirement account. We do not currently on-line together.
I'm relatively uneducated about all the ins and outs of prenups, but I know that they would protect these assets and I think they also protect our accrued assets in the marriage and distribute them evenly (or thats how they should work and that's what I want). I just know unpredictable things can happen and I want a safety net that protects us both.
