It's a very condescending and paternalistic way of communicating with your partner, particularly if asking them why they're doing something a certain way while performing a task. The unspoken implication is there that she doesn't think OP is doing the task properly and she wants to correct him if his response is something less than satisfactory.

Your friend should be dealing with his mental health issues with a professional, and not blaming your facial expressions for causing them.
He does chores, but he does them way too much where it’s ridiculous. He has to clean all of the time. I work and am in school full time for both, I clean but it’s reasonable cleaning. He takes it to the extreme and if I don’t match up, I’m the problem. Honestly I’ve thought about divorce but it feels too soon
