After being married for 18 years, this just seems normal? My spouse and I both have regular nights where we go out and see friends on our own. We also take turns during the week bringing our kids to their extracurriculars. On Mondays, I get the house to myself and I enjoy it way more than I enjoy getting drinks with friends sometimes. On Wednesdays I take the kids and my husband gets to laze around before meeting a friend for dinner etc. No expectations, no questions, just vibes.
I’m really glad that he places the same importance on me having the house to myself for a bit as he does getting drinks with a friend and isn’t ever like “Ugh why do I have to leave MY house that I pay for?”
Maybe weekly is too much for you, but bi-weekly or monthly are perfectly reasonable expectations and you should work with your partner to come up with a compromise that works for both of you.
