Have you spent much time caring for kids? Because I (44F) wouldn’t want to be starting a family at this age. Kids are busy and take a lot of work. Also. She’s 35. If she got pregnant, that would be considered a geriatric pregnancy with increasing risks to mom and baby that increase as time goes on. It’s doable but even conception can be harder as we age.
I think you just make a nice dinner and invite her over and tell her that you’ve been thinking a lot about the relationship and the future. That you want to be married. Is that something she wants now or ever? And that you want kids, is that something she wants?
And then you go from there.
But before you have that conversation? I think you need to do some self reflection and decide whether or not marriage and/or kids are a dealbreaker for you. Because she may not want one or either.

I think that it's reasonable and healthy not to go into too much detail about every act they might have done together. You don't need to have that mental picture. I don't think your gf was wrong to just say that there was “history” and leave it at that.
