he has said recently he feels like im not taking his emotions into consideration, how do i show empathy for him?? what are things i can say/do?
ive mentioned i am sorry many times and tried to tell him ive been honest, but even recently something as small as him asking how often i talk to the ex (i assumed once a week and answered with that but he apparently does so more than once a week) is basis for me being a liar.
im not good at these things at all 🙁 i feel this recent question regressed progress for the trust issues. im going to get us counseling if we cannot resolve things on our own soon

The thing that makes me the saddest about this is that you say your son never really had close friends until this guy.
So not only did he lose his only parent, he lost his only friend.
Aside from the age gap, the fact this guy was literally the same age as your child, and that you missed many of his important events so you could bone, taking his only friend from him was just brutal.
