I think everything that can be said about this situation has pretty much been said, but I'd like to add my personal experience as a hopeful cautionary tale.
I had an ex that did this, went through my phone to find conversations he “didn't like” and would stonewall me till i begged him to tell me what was wrong and would blow up and say “is there something you need to tell me??? I know youre cheating just admit it” when i wasnt. It is torture, and it is extremely damaging long-term because now im constantly worried im going to be accused of something wrongly by my current bf, even though he never has and reassures me he trusts me. You dont have to prove yourself to this dirtbag, you know you did nothing wrong and if he trusted you he'd believe you, obviously he doesn't trust you and that's no foundation for a healthy relationship. Don't mess yourself up for this guy, he's not worth it and you can do better.
The guys dad is a doctor. She got prescribed medication from him and then got another prescription a week later from her doctor. I have no reason to lie to strangers.
I think it’s more that OP and his wife had the same hardline views on cheating, and now OP is backtracking on his views and trying to justify it to his wife because it’s his friend that is the problem here.
