I was in the same situation with my current fiancé, after 5 months I couldn’t deal with his fear of commitment anymore so I told him how I was feeling, that I really cared about him and wanted our relationship to be “official” and although I understood his struggles, I couldn’t continue like that… I gave him a few days to think about it and then he came back to me saying he couldn’t lose me and was ready to make it official. He still struggled and so we talked a lot and looked into it together, we then realised he has relationship OCD. He started seeing a therapist and learnt a lot about himself and how to minimise the effects of his intrusive thoughts, to the point he managed to even propose to me after 3 years together. We’re getting married next year. This is just to say that I don’t agree with “don’t waste time, he’ll never commit”, communication is key in this case. And if he’s open to actively work on his struggles things CAN change. But yeah, definitely needs a lot of communication and honesty from both sides.
I actually do meet my accountant over coffee, my partner is usually there too, so…
