  1. $300 each is expensive for casually getting two friends chains. That’s $600 you dropped for both in total!

    Oh I know why she’s mad-MAD!

Sir you bought these two other women gifts like they are your girlfriend and treating your gf like she’s just a friend.

You’ve been with her for a year, you didn’t even drop this much for Christmas on her and her birthday is at the end of January?

Oh expect her to walk from you!

And if these friends don’t know the extent of this, they’ll be taken a back by how you back burner gift your girlfriend by saying she can be replaced but these two women will never be replaced.

At the end of the day your actions spoke, you showed her who you really are at your core by this very decision.

  2. In the email, he said that he is asking for my forgiveness to help in his recovery to become a better husband and dad.

In other words, he wants to be unburdened by the guilt, to no longer feel like a POS. This doesn't read like he's all that remorseful. Instead of apologizing, wishing you well, and maybe leaving his contact info in case you ever wanted to reach out, he's pleading for forgiveness.

I firmly believe people can grow and learn from mistakes of the past. I don't doubt that your toxic mom did a number on him, but that doesn't excuse his actions, it just offers an explanation. You aren't obligated to forgive. And him asking for it, just makes him look bad.

That line about needing to move past it in order to be a better husband and dad seems disingenuous, and manipulative. His guilt shouldn't affect his ability to be either. If anything, it should motivate him to be a better person.

Should I forgive and try and forge a relationship with him? Or is it best to just keep to the no contact?

I wouldn't. He clearly wants forgiveness, and you clearly aren't ready to give it. Unless you want him and his family part of your life again I'd ignore and stick with no contact. You can always revisit this at a later point if something changes.
