Your problem isn't with communicating with her, or with her hearing you and responding. Your problem is letting go of the past. I suggest a short term of counselling for you.

She was wrong to interrogate him for his valid choice not to want to shower with his three year old child.
He was wrong to call her behaviour inappropriate when it is natural and healthy.
