I've read a few comments – and I don't see Op at fault per se. If you aren't happy with something: talk to each other. Of course I can't tell if the wife tried and OP doesn't listen – but just going from this perspectiv provided: it isn't real support if you (generally speaking) hold it as a threat years after. And if you can't support your partner nor communicate your needs or be at least somewhat at peace, even if it's rough for the time being, then leave. There is a reason for the saying “in good times AND in bad times” or however it would be verbatim… but OP said, he was upfront with his plans and ultimativley it is HIS life, goals and dreams. Big dreams that luckily paid off, but not following them may have made OP severly unhappy till the point he would blame his wife for standing in the way. But – if you take a closer look – both options are still available. If the life is that much unbearable with OP, she should leave. I truly don't see, as a 39 year old (young) woman, any time truly wasted. There is plenty of money to do some reeeaaaally crazy stuff to last a lifetime. OP didn't say anything about children – that would be the only point where it would be really tricky, because this is one of the few thing for which 39 is rather old… but everything else? I think saying you started in an “open relationship” is giving people the wrong impression, unless I’m the one who is misunderstanding. Do you mean when you first started dating, you weren’t exclusive? If that’s the case, it sounds different (to me) than saying your relationship.
