To address your first point, from a parental perspective, how am I going to sit here and argue with you? You’re obviously a great father who loves his children. But do you really want to be miserable from a relationship perspective?

I have had people threaten me with suicide before the only way to go forward is to set boundaries and never go back on them. Tell them you're sorry they're going through this, provide them with local information, suicide hotline, mental health help lines, and explain that you cannot be in a relationship where you are threatened with suicide for your own wellbeing and that you want them to get help and get better. After that move on, you're allowed to cut them out.
You are not responsible for what they're going through and you do NOT have to save them, you're not even obligated to help at all. Take care of yourself. And if they don't stop, call the police if you know where they are. Get away from this.
Get yourself therapy, talk to a mental health hotline yourself. These experiences can be traumatic and you deserve help and support as well.
(DO NOT repeat this to someone going through this but people who threaten suicide are less likely to actually go through with it, it is a cry for help and a desperate attempt for attention, and a manipulative way to get you to be dependent on eachother.)

You are way overthinking it. You should go since you already know these people and will probably enjoy yourself. You may be at the top of the list because you will bring something special to the event.
If you want, you could ask Joe if he's going. If yes, definitely go. If no, you could still go, but no need to.

This comment should be higher up! The other comments questioning whether or not OP wants to marry this person miss the mark. It’s completely valid to be confused and a little disappointed that the proposal didn’t seem to take your wants/needs into account, which OP had clearly communicated! I don’t think OP’s partner intended to make her feel this way, but OP definitely needs to communicate her feelings to them about it.

IDK man, one of the few times I kind of react with a harsh tone to my wife is when she does this shit to me. No matter what it is, if I am intently focused on something and a person starts asking me questions about something else, I will mindlessly answer a few times, and eventually my tone gets worse and worse as I get frustrated, I don't really even realize it.
I would say the kids definitely don’t miss out and we live comfortably. Never once have they gone without because we would rather save.
