Yup, BPD is my first thought after reading some of OP's comments. The very black/white thinking (unless he trashes his female friend he must be interested in her) and emotional instability is a hallmark. Others have mentioned bipolar, but unless the mania is extremely rapid cycling, a personality disorder fits more clearly from the bit of information we have.
Of course we're armchair psychologizing this based on a snippet of information.
