I had a bit of a similar experience. My wife and I went back to our home country for a visit and her ex asked her to meet him. She agreed with the stipulation that I be invited as well. I didn’t ask for that. I trust my partner but she saw it as putting me first in her life. So we met him and turns out he’s a really nice guy. He wanted to introduce her to his new girlfriend and so we all had a great time. What I’m saying is trust is good but you need to put the person you say you love first and trust be damned. It’s not a pissing contest. It’s about treating the person you say means everything to you like they actually do mean everything to you. BTW we’ve been married 29 years and her ex is now also a good friend of mine.
