None of this is “snobby”. You should have standards. You want a partner- someone who is an equal contributor in your relationship- emotionally, and financially. You shouldn't settle for, or accept, someone that isn't able to contribute equally- and it sounds like this guy, as nice as he is, isn't currently able to do that, and may not ever be able to do that.
If you are dating for marriage, and this guy doesn't meet your standards as an acceptable marriage partner right now, then you owe it to both him, and yourself, to call quits and move on. You always date people for who they are right now, not for the potential you think they have.
