I just thought the same thing!!!
In my opinion taking a year off after graduating University is a pretty normal thing that many people do.. even more so if he plans to go do grad school after taking a bit of a break/some time off. The dude has been in school for like the past 17-18 years straight at this point lol, if he wants to take a year off and just chill/find himself he should be able to do that (he has an opportunity not most have by getting to live with/off his parents – who I’m sure are super proud of their son’s graduation and are okay giving him a bit of a break before either going to school or working again).
My advice OP is to cut your boyfriend some slack – let him take the year to “chill” as you put it and then reevaluate after. My guess is he’ll apply to grad school in that time (which the applications do to take some effort/time to complete).
If it really bothers you that much he’s taking a break and you’re not (maybe a bit of jealousy?) than like the comment above says – you can’t change anyone or make them do anything. It’ll be best to break up and find someone who has more of your type of “work ethic”.
It sounds like she may be codependent. That doesn’t mean that you both are, just that she depends on your relationship and the connection to you above all else.
