I think if your partner is having mental health issues that affect them to this extent, they shouldn’t be in a relationship. It does not sound healthy and will not be healthy in the long run. You will end up being their emotional care taker and that is a very draining role to play. You are way too young, inexperienced in relationships and unequipped to deal with these problems. You would be best off by saying with your study and everything going on in your life, you don’t have the spare time to commit to a relationship. Yes they may react badly but what they do is their choice, not yours. You are not responsible for the actions of someone else.
Also info, i saw a comment that said something about why is my mother dictating where i drive: i’ve only had my drivers license for two weeks and i had my learners permit for less than two months, i would have had it longer but being my moms only support after surgery, i had to get it early since she can’t drive for a month or more since she can’t turn her neck due to said surgery and she needs to get back and forth to physical therapy and we need groceries. so i’ve been safe on the roads and going local, his job is not local.
There is no culture on this planet where men are second rate citizens. None. Zero. Zip.
That said, it sounds like you have enough outrage over this for everybody else about this situation.
My husband was 21 when we met and still living at home, and I was 31. It's been almost 13 years and we've gotten married and moved to another continent together.
I won't say the age gap didn't cause us some issues, because of course it did, but it can work and you can be very happy.
Also, don't assume the drinking age is 21 everywhere – it's really only the US that's stupid enough to keep it that high.
