I got my hormonal birth control for free and it failed because of a previously-unknown interaction with other medication. Free condoms can break just as much as one from the store. IUDs can fail. Short of sterilization (and sometimes even that fails) there is no such thing as 100% effective bc. Insisting that only people off bc get unwanted pregnancies is asinine.
What Colorado implemented was amazing and HELPED rates of unwanted births but was by no means 100% effective, and insisting that it must be 100% effective weakens our cause since the right wing can flaunt the “failure” to meet goals as a reason to shut such programs down. It strengthens the argument that “the only safe sex is no sex” and backs abstinence-only education.
You also know nothing about how OPs partner got pregnant (if their bc failed, if she baby-trapped him ‐ hell, there's always a chance it's not even his) so you're kind of just being a sanctimonious clown in the comments for no reason.
