You should be honest with your friend but you should also prepare yourself for the possibility that she doesn't cut him off and his friend group stays intact, with you the one no longer welcome.

When I broke up with an abusive ex and eventually told mutual friends the truth, several of them didn't believe it and blocked me. Others did believe me but remained friends with him anyway.

First it’s the hair then it’s the ___________. Fill in the blank when he chooses the next thing. Maybe it will be ‘spending too much time with your friends’ or ‘saying hi to another man’ or ‘wearing clothes that are too revealing’. This is his way of controlling you. He says he doesn’t like it and so you don’t do it anymore. Then he realises that he has some kind of power over your decisions so he will choose something else he wants you to stop doing. Do yourself a favour and leave him. This is not ok behaviour.
