19 is not a child, 19 is an adult that’s capable of giving consent. The relationship could be abusive and/or in appropriate but that doesn’t make it grooming.
Grooming is a way predators condition children to be abused and not say anything by convincing them it’s normal behavior. It flat doesn’t apply to people that can give consent. The relationship is also out in the open.
The reason the term being diluted matters isn’t because I’m nitpicking language, it’s because there are actual patterns of behavior that people that work with kids are supposed to look for. Those behaviors matter and the danger of what comes after really matters.
We worry about the wrong shit in this world. We worry kids are going to get snatched off the street and sold into sex rings, and though that does happen, it’s dad, uncle, neighbor, pastor, step dad that do the vast majority of the abuse. Again, notice, these are all adults in positions of power and trust over the kids.
Bastardizing the term to mean “I don’t like your attitude towards sex” is harming the kids the people say they want to protect.
Even teens understand what loyalty means. It was probably a her problem.
