I think immense guilt could stem from emotional cheating. However, if she was withholding some details, I’d imagine it would impede on her fully processing the shame/guilt.

If she’s travelling for business then I assume she’s having many meetings perhaps people were constantly asking non-business related questions about her being engaged and she chose to take it off to keep the conversation on business or even her boss told her take it off for similar reasons.
