Yeah I never understood the whole “you should love them no matter what!”. Like no, if my partner gains 200 pounds I’m not going to be attracted to him. Raising children is about putting them first. But a, a grandparent isn’t a random person, and b, she isn’t putting them first in other aspects by putting them around a whole gaggle of probably unsafe people. But that’s different for some reason, even though his flavor of unsafe is “committed bad, but nonviolent crime” and theirs is “beating people on the street” and “teaching kids that everyone who has committed a crime is a monster” (yeah any cop with that view has definitely beat a few minors in their custody).
Nobody is riding him about anything. I don’t force him to stop smoking. I simply ask him if he wants to wait to have another cigarette since he just smoked one and he has the option of saying yes or no. If he hasn’t had a cigarette in a while then I wouldn’t say anything when he wants another. At first he would hold off before having one and now he seems to quickly light a cigarette before I can even ask if he wants to wait or not. This usually happens when we have a disagreement or he isn’t having a good day which I understand but now it’s happening frequently and I’ve lost the need to keep asking if he wants to wait every ten minutes.
