So basically how would I approach this then. She is upset and wants me to listen and validate her feelings and say nothing. It almost feels counterproductive because then we are having the same conversation twice, but I guess then she gets to vent and feel heard first.
To me you just sound like a teenager, wanting to both be close to and separate from your family. Think of this as the time in your life when you decide who you want to be when you grow up .It's a tough for everyone and everyone feel better when you have a more clear idea of want you want and the choices you need to make to get there.
